The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Kenya has introduced a Transport System for issuing Instant Fines to deal with violations of Traffic Laws.
Through this system, violations will be recorded instantly and sent via text message to drivers.
“This process is self-driving and operates without human intervention, ensuring greater transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the enforcement of traffic laws,” NTSA said in a statement on Monday.
Payment for all violations must be made within seven days, otherwise, other penalties will be imposed.
“Failure to pay the fine due within seven days will result in additional interest. Furthermore, a vehicle or driver who is awaiting a fine will not be able to transact on NTSA’s service platforms until the fine is paid,” the notice said.
NTSA also urged drivers to adhere to all traffic regulations and respond immediately to any official notices received.
The move is part of the government’s ongoing plans to strengthen road safety and increase compliance with traffic laws.
The implementation of the measure follows a directive issued by President William Ruto on March 2 that the Ministry of Roads and Transport and NTSA implement a plan to impose on-the-spot fines within one month.
