Bolt has expanded its presence in Kenya’s digital economy by entering the on-demand retail space through a new partnership with supermarket chain Quickmart.
The collaboration will allow customers to order more than 12,000 products from over 60 Quickmart branches directly via the Bolt Food app, marking a shift from food delivery into broader everyday retail shopping.

The move is aimed at tapping into Kenya’s growing demand for convenience-based shopping as more consumers embrace online platforms for household purchases. It also reflects a wider trend among retailers investing in digital channels and last-mile delivery systems to boost sales beyond physical stores.
Bolt Food’s General Manager for Kenya and Ghana, Ali Zaryab, said the partnership represents an evolution of the platform into a full-scale digital commerce service.
He noted that working with established retailers like Quickmart will make it easier for customers to access everyday essentials while helping businesses reach more households through online channels.
Quickmart Chief Marketing Officer Betty Wamaitha said the partnership will enhance convenience for shoppers by making the retailer’s wide product range available through on-demand delivery across its nearly 70-store network.

The agreement is part of the continued growth of Kenya’s digital economy, where platform-based services are increasingly shaping retail, logistics, and consumer spending habits.
The country’s gig economy is estimated to support about 1.5 million workers and generate over Sh100 billion annually in economic activity.
