Beyoncé Makes History as First Black Woman Billionaire

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter has officially been named a billionaire by Forbes, making her the first Black woman to reach this milestone solely through her music career and business ventures, without inheritance or family wealth.

Forbes estimates her net worth at over $1 billion, driven by sold-out global tours, chart-topping albums, and a wide-ranging business empire. At 44, the mother of three has solidified her status as a financial powerhouse.

Beyoncé rose to fame in the late 1990s as a member of Destiny’s Child, the girl group that sold over 60 million records and paved the way for her solo career. She launched her solo debut, Dangerously in Love, in 2003 and has since sold more than 200 million records worldwide, becoming one of the best-selling music artists in history.

Known for her electrifying stage performances and innovative choreography, her 2023 Renaissance World Tour grossed around Sh75.27 billion ($579 million) over 56 shows, averaging Sh1.3 billion ($10 million) per night, making it one of her most lucrative tours.

Her 2024–2025 Cowboy Carter Tour also topped charts, breaking into country music territory with hits like “Texas Hold ’Em.” Forbes initially valued her net worth at Sh10.14 billion ($780 million) in 2025 among self-made women.

Beyoncé’s entrepreneurial ventures have been highly successful. She co-founded Ivy Park with Adidas in 2016, later regaining full control in 2022, and launched the luxury haircare brand Cécred in 2024, which sold out instantly and is projected to earn Sh13 billion ($100 million).

Her talents extend to Hollywood as well, including a Golden Globe-nominated role in Dreamgirls (2006), an Oscar-winning song for King Richard, and the visual album Black Is King (2020), which generated tens of millions in revenue.

Married to rapper and business mogul Jay-Z, whose net worth is reportedly Sh325 billion ($2.5 billion), the couple’s combined fortune exceeds $4 billion, though Beyoncé’s billion-dollar status is entirely her own.

She now joins an exclusive list of music billionaires such as Rihanna, Jay-Z, Taylor Swift, and Dr. Dre, earning through record-breaking performances, business ventures, and her social media influence, with over 300 million Instagram followers.
