Alamin Ahmed Abdallah has been elected the new Chairman of the Mombasa Football Kenya Federation (FKF), defeating incumbent Lillian Kazungu in Thursday’s elections held at Shanzu Teachers College.

Alamin received 26 votes, edging out Kazungu, who garnered 22 votes. Salim Ali came in third with eight votes.

This marks Alamin’s second attempt at the position, having previously contested in 2020, when Kazungu emerged victorious.

In his victory speech, Alamin expressed his gratitude to the delegates and emphasized his commitment to transforming Mombasa’s football scene. “This is a win for the entire Mombasa football community. Together, we will work to make Mombasa a soccer hub and ensure we have one unified league under FKF,” he said, stressing that divisions caused by conflicting county and FKF leagues had been detrimental to local football.

Alamin, who is also the chairman of Division One side Congo Boyz, announced that his deputy will be Betty Kerubo, an active referee, marking a new chapter for the county’s football leadership.

The election also saw Stephen Mureithi secure the secretary position with a decisive 36 votes, defeating incumbent Mahfudh Omar, who received 18 votes. Mohammed Salim trailed with just two votes. “We are committed to working as one team and making Mombasa great again,” Mureithi said after his win.

Jones Kyalo, known as “Viera,” was the only incumbent to retain his position, re-elected as Youth Representative.
