In a significant drug seizure at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMI), a Kenyan woman was detained on Thursday for her alleged participation in the trafficking of cocaine valued at an astounding Ksh 280 million (Rs 14.90 crore).
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) disclosed that the arrest resulted from intelligence-driven surveillance as the woman arrived on a flight from Nairobi.
Upon a thorough inspection of her belongings, authorities discovered 1,490 grams of a suspicious white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine.
As per the DRI, the narcotics were cleverly concealed in two black polythene packets, each containing a white powdery substance, and placed inside a hair conditioner bottle and a body wash bottle.
Under the strict provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985, the suspect has been taken into custody and detained for further legal proceedings.
The DRI underscored that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts directed at uncovering potential links in the broader drug supply chain.
This incident highlights the intricate and evolving nature of global drug trafficking operations, prompting authorities to remain vigilant in their endeavors to combat such illicit activities.
The arrest serves as a poignant reminder of the imperative need for international collaboration to curb the threat of drug smuggling, with agencies like the DRI playing a pivotal role in upholding national and global security.
