Another Protester Dies After Teargas Incident in Nairobi

Another casualty has occurred in the protests against the Finance Bill 2024, as a 21-year-old man passed away in hospital due to injuries sustained during demonstrations.

Evans Kiratu, critically injured and suffering internal bleeding, was transported to Kenyatta National Hospital by a bystander.

His family identified his body at the hospital morgue, confirming he had been struck by a teargas canister in a sensitive area, leading to his death.

“We received this tragic news from a Good Samaritan who found him on the road. He mentioned Evans was hit by a teargas canister in a sensitive area and was in critical condition,” explained Rachel Waithanje, Kiratu’s aunt.

Kiratu’s death follows closely after Rex Masai was reportedly shot by a plain-clothed officer in Nairobi’s CBD the previous night.

The incidents have sparked widespread outcry, with demands for justice and accountability from Kenyan citizens.
