Mombasa Authorities Seize Cocaine Worth KSh495K

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, two females were apprehended in the Kisauni area of Utange, Mombasa County, for allegedly engaging in the peddling of cocaine.

According to a statement from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the individuals in question, Amina Musa Chirunga and Saumu Ali Khamis, were found in possession of packets of cocaine with an approximate street value of KSh495,000.

The apprehension was carried out by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit following a tip-off. Upon arriving at the suspects’ residence, a search was conducted, leading to the discovery of the cocaine, colloquially referred to as “nose candy.”

The suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Monday, May 27, to face charges related to drug trafficking.

This successful operation underscores the ongoing endeavors of law enforcement agencies in combating the scourge of drug abuse and its associated criminal activities in the coastal region.

These developments occur amidst an executive order issued by Mombasa County Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, prohibiting the sale, distribution, and consumption of khat, commonly known as muguka, within the county.

“I have authorized an executive order to restrict the entry of muguka into Mombasa and to prohibit its sale and consumption within the county,” stated the county executive.

Authorities continue to uphold their dedication to fostering a secure and drug-free environment for the local community.
