How to Add Two WhatsApp Accounts on Your Phone

WhatsApp has introduced the capability to have two separate accounts on a single device.

Announced by the Meta-owned platform last October, this feature eliminates the necessity for users to possess multiple devices for their various accounts.

To set up a second WhatsApp account, users require either a distinct phone number or a device that supports multiple SIM cards.

The currently active account is the one currently logged in, while the inactive account is the one not in use.

WhatsApp assures that inactive accounts will still receive notifications about messages and calls, with users able to switch to the account to view the content.

Similar to the traditional method of personalizing profiles, users with two accounts logged into a device can customize each profile by setting a picture, about text, notification settings, and privacy settings.

Currently, this feature is exclusively available for Android users and supports two accounts.

Account Creation:

  1. Navigate to Settings, then Account, and tap Add Account.
  2. Confirm your agreement to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, then select your country from the drop-down menu.
  3. Enter your phone number in international format, tap Done or Next, and then tap OK to receive your 6-digit registration code via SMS or phone call.
  4. Enter the registration code to finalize the registration.
  5. Set up your new profile, including your name, and tap Next. Optionally, add a profile photo and fill in the About field.

To switch between accounts, access the more options menu at the top-right of the home screen, then tap Switch accounts.

Account Removal:

  1. To remove an account from your device, go to Settings, then Account, and tap Remove Account.
  2. Tap Confirm to confirm the removal of this account from the device.
  3. Removing an account only removes it from the current device, with the account’s groups and channels remaining unaffected. However, any messages or data not backed up will be lost.
  4. WhatsApp indicates that if a user has linked devices, the account removal process takes 14 days.
  5. To delete an account entirely, go to Settings, then Account, and select Delete Account.
