An 80-year-old grandmother, previously sentenced to five years in prison for gouging out her grandson’s eyes, has been acquitted of the charges.
The lower court had convicted her for this crime against her grandson, Baby Sagini.

However, on Friday, Justice Kiarie Waweru acquitted Ms. Mayaka, citing the prosecution’s inability to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.

Justice Waweru emphasized the lack of evidence demonstrating that the defendant committed the offense as charged.
