In Siaya County, law enforcement authorities have confiscated 298.5 kilograms of marijuana, estimated at Ksh.8.9 million in street value, and apprehended a suspected drug trafficker.
The arrest unfolded after the suspect engaged in a dramatic car chase along the Siaya-Nyadorera Road.
Siaya County Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo reported that officers from the Siaya Police Station successfully intercepted a motor vehicle transporting the marijuana. Acting on a tip-off from the public, the officers set up a trap, and when the driver, identified as Justus Onyango Malaki, resisted police orders to stop, a pursuit ensued.
During the chase, the officers strategically shot and deflated the front tire of the vehicle, ultimately stopping it. The driver attempted to flee but was pursued and apprehended by the police. Upon conducting a search, six sacks containing marijuana were discovered.
The detained driver, Justus Onyango Malaki, is currently held at Siaya Police Station, awaiting charges for the offense of trafficking narcotic drugs.
The implicated motor vehicle has also been seized in connection with the crime. The suspect is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
