EACC Summons MP Salasya Over Assault Allegations

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has called upon Peter Salasya, the Member of Parliament for Mumias East, to appear at its Nairobi offices on Tuesday, January 23, 2024.

In a letter dated January 16, EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak informed Salasya of the requirement for an interview and statement recording at Integrity Centre, Nairobi, at 9 am on the specified date.

The summons pertains to allegations that Salasya assaulted Peter Walunya, the Malaha/Isongo Ward MCA, during a funeral on January 12. CEO Mbarak emphasized the gravity of the accusations, stating that if proven true, they would constitute a serious violation of the integrity and ethical standards outlined in Chapter Six of the Constitution and the Leadership and Integrity Act, 2012.

Mbarak disclosed that the Commission has initiated investigations into the matter to ensure appropriate action is taken in accordance with its mandate. In a related development, Salasya voluntarily appeared at Mumias Law Courts on Wednesday, complying with a court order.

Before Senior Resident Magistrate Marcella Onyango, he pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and grievous bodily harm, securing release on a Sh50,000 bond. The case is scheduled for mention on February 19, with the hearing set for March 12.
