Gospel singer Kambua has revealed that she was not interested in starting a new relationship when she first met her husband, Jackson, because she was still recovering from a previous heartbreak.
Speaking to Reverend Kathy Kauna on Saturday, July 18, 2026, Kambua said she had just come out of a relationship that had not worked out and had resolved to stay away from dating.
She recalled that while Jackson was confident about pursuing a relationship from the very beginning, she was emotionally guarded and had no intention of falling in love again.
“When I met Jackson, he was very sure of what he wanted from the get-go. Which was very different from me because I had come from a relationship that… hatukufika mahali tulikua tunaenda. So meeting Jackson was very different,” she said.
Kambua also disclosed that before they met in person, Jackson had been reaching out to her through Facebook messages, but she deliberately ignored them because she was not ready to entertain a new relationship.
She explained that after months of leaving his messages unanswered, she eventually replied to one of them, something Jackson saw as an opportunity to take things further.
“I had come out of that relationship because I just didn’t want anything to do with relationships. So he kept messaging me, and I left the messages on read. Then one day I replied, and he took that as, ‘She has responded,'” she said.

Following their exchange, the pair arranged to meet for coffee at Westgate. However, their first date was far from ideal after Jackson was caught in heavy traffic and arrived late.
Kambua said the delay meant they spent only a few minutes together before he had to leave.
“We set our coffee date, and he got stuck in the worst traffic. He came to meet me, and less than three minutes later, he had to leave,” she recalled.
Although she was initially hesitant about love, Kambua said their relationship began after months of persistence from Jackson, proving that timing eventually worked in their favour.
