Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has expressed confidence that Meru County will overwhelmingly support President William Ruto’s re-election bid in the 2027 General Election, declaring that the region is firmly behind the Head of State.
Kindiki made the remarks on Sunday during the 60th anniversary celebrations of Burieruri Boys Senior School in Igembe Central, Meru County, where he addressed students, alumni, congregants, and local leaders gathered for the institution’s diamond jubilee.

Using the event to deliver a political message, the Deputy President said the people of Meru had already made their decision and would rally behind President Ruto in his quest for a second term.
He assured the President that the county would deliver its votes in support of his re-election during the 2027 polls.
Kindiki’s comments come as political activity begins to intensify following the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission’s (IEBC) unveiling of the roadmap for the 2027 General Election.
The electoral commission has confirmed that Kenya’s next General Election will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2027, and has outlined key activities that political parties, aspirants, and public officials must complete ahead of the polls.
The election timetable was announced by IEBC Commissioner Ann Nderitu, who chairs the Election Operations Committee, during the launch of the Election Operations Plan (EOP) 2025–2027.
According to the commission, the plan is anchored in the IEBC Strategic Plan 2024–2029 and is intended to guide the planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of all electoral activities leading to the General Election.
Nderitu said the roadmap is designed to promote transparency, accountability, compliance with electoral laws, and greater stakeholder and public participation while strengthening the commission’s preparedness.
Among the major deadlines announced is the requirement for public officers seeking elective positions to resign from their offices by February 9, 2027, six months before the election.

Political parties have also been directed to submit their membership registers by March 16, 2027, together with the names of aspirants seeking party nominations and details of their nomination schedules.
The IEBC further stated that all political parties must complete their nomination exercises and resolve any disputes arising from the primaries by May 9, 2027.
The release of the election roadmap provides political parties and aspiring candidates with a clear timeline as preparations, campaigns, and political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election continue to gather momentum.
