Kenya Deports Somali Deputy PM Amid Passport Probe

A diplomatic dispute may be emerging between Kenya and Somalia after Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Jibril Abdirashid Haji, was reportedly denied entry into Kenya and deported over claims that he possessed a Kenyan passport allegedly obtained through fraudulent means.

The incident is said to have occurred on Wednesday evening at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), where Haji arrived from Mogadishu aboard a Saacid Airlines flight.

According to immigration sources, the Somali official presented a valid Somali diplomatic passport together with an entry visa. However, immigration officers allegedly flagged him after suspecting he was also carrying a Kenyan passport believed to have been acquired illegally.

Sources familiar with the matter claimed that Haji admitted he possessed the Kenyan passport but reportedly declined to hand it over to immigration officials, insisting that any dispute over the document should be resolved through the courts.

The disagreement led to the Deputy Prime Minister being held at the JKIA VIP Lounge as senior immigration officers investigated the matter.

He was later escorted onto a Daallo Airlines flight back to Mogadishu, effectively being denied entry into Kenya.

By the time of publication, neither the Kenyan nor the Somali government had issued an official statement regarding the incident.

However, a senior official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that the deportation had taken place.

A police report indicated that the Somali official departed Kenya on June 25, 2026, at 6:45 a.m., with no incidents reported during the process.

A senior government official said authorities are increasingly concerned about cases involving foreign nationals allegedly obtaining Kenyan passports through fraudulent or corrupt networks.

Investigations are ongoing to establish the circumstances under which the Kenyan passport was allegedly acquired.
