NTSA Cancels Nicco Movers Licence, Halts All Operations

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has withdrawn the operating licence of Nicco Movers 1 Sacco and ordered the immediate suspension of all its transport services following safety concerns linked to the death of a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) student.

In a directive issued on Friday, June 12, NTSA Director General Nashon Kondiwa announced that all vehicles operating under the Sacco must stop operating immediately.

According to the authority, the decision was reached after investigations into an incident that led to the death of 19-year-old KMTC student Eugene Mutuku.

“NTSA has resolved to revoke the operator licence issued to Nicco Movers 1 Sacco and direct the cessation of its operations with immediate effect,” the notice stated.

The authority also instructed traffic police and other law enforcement agencies to impound any vehicles belonging to the Sacco that are found operating contrary to the suspension order.

The move follows a probe into an incident that occurred on June 4, 2026, involving a Nicco Sacco matatu. Preliminary reports indicate that Mutuku was allegedly assaulted during a dispute over fare payment before being thrown from the moving vehicle.

The vehicle reportedly failed to stop after the incident and is alleged to have run over the student. Mutuku later died from the injuries before he could receive medical treatment.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.
