Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has stated that he will not be forced or pressured into joining any political party ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during a boda boda Sacco empowerment event in Kiambaa, the governor said his political direction will be guided by the people of Kiambu when the appropriate time comes.

He emphasized that he remains focused on service delivery and development, noting that political alliances will only be considered closer to the election period.
The event brought together boda boda riders from Karuri, Kihara, Ndenderu, Cianda, and Muchatha wards.
Wamatangi said no amount of intimidation, pressure, or political manipulation would push him into early political negotiations or alignments.
“When the time comes, the people of Kiambu will give me the direction on which political party I will join,” he said.
“But no amount of persecution, blackmail, or threats from any quarter will force me into political factions or early politicking.”
He added that leadership decisions should be based on the will of citizens rather than political interests, stressing that his administration is still focused on ongoing development projects across the county.
The governor said he intends to concentrate on development work until early 2027 before fully shifting into campaign mode.
“I will do that until around the third month of 2027. After that, I will enter politics,” he said.
Wamatangi questioned the rush into campaigns, arguing that the remaining time before elections should be dedicated to development rather than political activity.
He further suggested that effective campaigning requires only a short period if a leader has delivered on their mandate, asking whether two months would be enough to seek votes.

He maintained that his performance in office would speak for itself, saying leadership is judged by results rather than rhetoric.

“Your work is what protects you, not words. Show people what you’ve done—politics is secondary,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bunge Mashinani speaker Eric Mutura expressed regret over alleged attempts by some Kiambu MPs to undermine the governor through protests and negative narratives, saying Wamatangi deserved support based on his performance.
