The Lebanese Ministry of Health says 14 people, including two children, were killed Sunday in Israeli strikes.
An Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman earlier issued an evacuation notice to residents of several villages in southern Lebanon, warning that ignoring the notice “would put their lives at risk”.
The IDF later said it carried out “airstrikes” targeting Hezbollah militants in southern Lebanon, which it claims are being used to “carry out attacks against Israeli forces”.
It also said a 19-year-old IDF soldier was killed and six others wounded by a Hezbollah drone attack in Lebanon.
Hezbollah launched three drones towards Israel, the IDF reported, adding that they were shot down by the Israeli air force before they crossed the border.
The two countries reached a ceasefire plan, which came into effect on April 16 and was extended for three weeks on Thursday last week.
Under the agreement, Israel retains its “right to take all necessary measures to defend itself, at any time, against planned, imminent, or ongoing attacks”.
Speaking at a government meeting, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the IDF is “continuing, and operating vigorously” in Lebanon, saying Hezbollah’s actions are “dismantling the ceasefire”.
