In response to the cholera outbreak, churches in Zambia have been instructed to restrict worship sessions to a maximum of two hours as part of preventive measures.
Ndiwa Mutelo, a senior official overseeing religious affairs, announced that the sale of perishable and ready-to-eat foods is prohibited in all churches.
To minimize the risk of cholera transmission, worshippers are also advised to abstain from handshakes and hugs. Mr. Mutelo, in a statement, mandated worship centers to provide secure drinking water, handwashing stations, and alcohol-based hand sanitizers for their members.
With over 7,800 reported cholera cases nationwide since October, the health ministry recorded more than 400 new cases and 18 deaths in the last 24 hours alone.
