Speaking later in Nairobi on Sunday evening during an Iftar dinner with members of the Kenya Association of Muslim Medical Professionals (KAMMP), Duale said he delayed his journey briefly to ensure the injured received help and were taken to hospital.

He said he instructed his team to assist the victims and ensure they received medical attention.

“Apologies for the delay; we were travelling from the function to Kisumu airport when a minor accident occurred. I asked my team to assist the injured and make sure they were taken to hospital. They are now recovering well,” he said.

Duale added that those injured were quickly rushed to hospital and are responding well to treatment.

A member of Duale’s security team said the crash involved one of the vehicles in the Cabinet Secretary’s escort convoy.

The officer also confirmed that none of the CS’s security team members were injured in the incident.

The motorcade had been travelling from the thanksgiving ceremony of Medical Services Principal Secretary Ouma Oluga in Rarieda, Siaya County.

The event brought together leaders, residents, and supporters who gathered to celebrate Oluga’s career in public service and his recent government appointment.

During the ceremony, Oluga expressed appreciation for what he described as a challenging yet rewarding journey guided by faith.

The thanksgiving celebration featured prayers, speeches, and festivities as leaders praised Oluga for his work in the health sector and his commitment to serving Kenyans.

President William Ruto was among the leaders who attended the event.

In a statement, Duale said leaders joined the people of Rarieda at Okela Primary School in Siaya County for the thanksgiving ceremony presided over by President Ruto.

He also wished Oluga success as they continue implementing reforms in the health sector and advancing the goal of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).

President Ruto also expressed confidence in Oluga’s leadership, describing him as one of the country’s top professionals in the medical field.

Oluga said the occasion was a moment of gratitude, noting that every stage of his journey had reflected faith, guidance, and strength.
