KQ Alerts Passengers to Possible Baggage Delays on Nairobi–Mumbai Flights

Kenya Airways has cautioned passengers travelling between Nairobi and Mumbai to expect possible baggage delays due to operational challenges caused by regional airspace restrictions and unfavorable weather conditions.

In a customer advisory issued on March 8, the airline said the restrictions have forced aircraft to carry extra fuel to accommodate longer or diverted flight routes.

According to the airline, the additional fuel load has reduced the space available for checked baggage on some flights.

“The extra fuel required for these flights has directly affected our baggage capacity, meaning some luggage may be misconnected or arrive on a later flight,” the airline said in the notice.

Kenya Airways explained that the airspace restrictions stem from an ongoing regional conflict affecting certain flight corridors, which has disrupted normal flight operations to and from Mumbai.

The airline apologised to passengers for the inconvenience and said teams in both Nairobi and Mumbai are working to ensure delayed luggage reaches its owners as soon as possible.

“Our teams in Nairobi and Mumbai are making every effort to reconnect delayed bags with their owners as quickly as possible,” the airline said.

Passengers affected by the delays have been encouraged to contact the airline’s customer service team for assistance.

The airline also shared customer support channels, including its call centre, WhatsApp line and social media support platforms.

The advisory comes as airlines worldwide continue adjusting flight operations in response to changing airspace conditions and weather disruptions that can affect flight routes, fuel needs and cargo capacity.

Kenya Airways thanked passengers for their patience and understanding as it works to address the situation.
