Chaos at Sifuna Rally Leaves Garage Worker Dead

A garage attendant who was among two people killed during an Edwin Sifuna-led rally in Kitengela on Sunday has been identified as 28-year-old Vincent Ayomo.

In a statement issued Monday, Sifuna said Ayomo was shot dead after police moved in to disperse the gathering. The senator, who organized the rally, blamed the administration of William Ruto for what he termed a violent confrontation between officers and supporters.

Sifuna said Ayomo had attended the meeting peacefully and questioned why he was allegedly targeted. He maintained that the deceased had not committed any offence or provoked anyone.

The senator also criticized the government, including Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, accusing authorities of using police and other individuals to disrupt public assemblies.

According to Sifuna, several other participants were injured and property destroyed after teargas was fired to break up the large crowd. He alleged that the state had resorted to force instead of addressing citizens’ concerns.

Ayomo’s family described him as a diligent and devoted young man, expressing deep sorrow over his death. Reports indicate he sustained a gunshot wound to the face, sparking panic at the rally.

Witnesses said confusion erupted following the gunfire, with security officers later taking control of the area. The circumstances surrounding the second fatality and the exact sequence of events remain under investigation.

Relatives have appealed for justice, mourning the loss of a man they say was committed to both his work and family.

The incident has renewed debate over security arrangements at political events, as leaders call for stronger safeguards to protect the public. Authorities are yet to release a detailed account, with inquiries still ongoing.
