As schools reopened for the first term on Monday nationwide, parents of Tinet Primary School in Eldama Ravine, Baringo County, took to the institution in protest of the inadequate performance of students. The parents, expressing frustration over the low marks achieved by learners in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams, locked the school gates, head teacher’s office, and staffroom on Monday morning.
In the 2023 KCPE exams, more than 32 candidates scored between 100 and 190 marks, while an additional 20 obtained less than 250.
Addressing the situation at the institution, over 300 parents stated that they would not permit their children to attend the school unless the head teacher, Judy Sang, is transferred. They asserted that they had filed complaints with the county education offices, but no action had been taken.
The parents also expressed concern that school assets, including maize, cows, and milk, were being sold discreetly.
Despite attempts by the media to reach Sub-County Director of Education David Kipsaat and Headteacher Judy Sang, all calls went unanswered.
As of press time, no education official had appeared at the institution to address the concerns.
