A Chinese national has been apprehended at Nairobi’s Gikomba market after the Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) confiscated 65,000 fake socks and clothing items valued at about Sh50 million — marking one of the biggest pre-holiday enforcement actions this year.
The operation followed an intellectual-property complaint lodged by Spoor & Fisher on behalf of international brands. ACA officials say the goods were allegedly routed through Uganda to conceal their origin before the festive shopping rush.

ACA Nairobi Regional Manager Abdi Abikar said the suspect planned to flood the market with low-grade items during the holiday season.
Working alongside trademark representatives, ACA officers confirmed the products were counterfeit, unsafe for consumers, and harmful to genuine manufacturers and traders.
The suspect, considered a potential flight risk, is being detained at Kamukunji Police Station as investigators track down his supply chain and cross-border network.
ACA Executive Director Robi M. King’a noted that the operation is part of the agency’s intensified Holiday Anti-Counterfeit Enforcement Campaign, focusing on major hotspots including Gikomba, Kamukunji, Eastleigh, and Nairobi’s CBD.
