Students Who Missed 2023 KCPE to Enroll in Form One; Qualifying Test Scheduled Later

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu announced on Monday that students who were unable to take their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations last year will still be admitted to secondary schools this year.

CS Machogu stated that a group of 2,000 pupils will join Form One on January 15, alongside those who completed the exam.

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) will arrange separate assessments for these learners to take their qualifying examinations later, before progressing to Form Three, as indicated by the education minister.

“After a thorough review of the number of candidates who missed their examinations, the council has identified 2,000 eligible learners… it has been decided that these 2,000 candidates will join Form One on January 15th and be allowed to sit qualifying examinations later,” Machogu explained.

“However, they will be advised to ensure they take their qualifying examinations before entering Form Three to ensure they are registered for the KCSE when they reach Form Four.”

During the announcement of the 2023 KCPE results on November 23, 2023, the CS assured that candidates who had missed the exam would have the opportunity to take a special examination this month, ensuring that no one from the final 2023 cohort misses admission to Form One. At that time, the number of learners who had missed the exam was reported to be 9,354.
