Effective July 1, 2025, KEPSS—the country’s Real Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) system—will operate from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., an expansion from the current 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. schedule.
In a statement, CBK said the move is designed to improve efficiency, accessibility, and the overall resilience of Kenya’s payment systems.
“This upgrade allows for earlier initiation and later completion of significant payments, supporting Kenya’s journey towards a round-the-clock digital economy,” the regulator noted.
The extended hours are expected to benefit the government, financial institutions, businesses, and other private sector participants who rely on KEPSS for high-value transactions.
CBK highlighted the system’s scale, revealing that it processed over 5.3 million transactions worth more than Sh45 trillion between August 2023 and August 2024.
The central bank reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a secure, efficient, and inclusive payments infrastructure that evolves in line with the country’s economic demands.
