The survey shows that 46% of respondents expect Raila to part ways with President Ruto and exit their current political alliance ahead of the next general election.
Of those, 28% think Raila will break ranks with Ruto and contest the presidency himself in 2027, while 18% believe he will defect from Ruto’s side but support a different opposition candidate.
The TIFA survey gauged public sentiment on the Broad-Based Government (BBG) initiative and its potential influence on the 2027 political climate.
The poll, conducted via telephone interviews between May 2 and May 6, 2025, covered 2,024 participants from nine regions: Central Rift, Coast, Lower Eastern, Mt. Kenya, Nairobi, Northern, Nyanza, South Rift, and Western. The margin of error is +/- 2.17%.
According to the findings, 38% of Kenyans expect Raila to support Ruto’s re-election bid, while 18% strongly reject that notion.
The report noted that even among BBG backers, more than one-third anticipate Raila will ultimately abandon the alliance and return to the opposition.
Specifically, 25% of BBG supporters foresee Raila severing ties with Ruto, compared to 13% who believe he will continue supporting the President.
Among BBG opponents, 53% predict Raila will shift back to the opposition, with 22% saying he will run for president and 31% expecting him to support another opposition figure.
