The president expressed Haiti’s continued support for the MSS mission while offering condolences to the officers. His visit came after Constable Benedict Kairu was killed in an ambush by gang members during a security operation on Tuesday.

On Thursday, the president held a meeting with MSS leadership, including Force Commander Godfrey Otunge.

At the time of the visit, officers were still searching for Kairu’s body in the troubled city. President Jean reaffirmed Haiti’s dedication to working with MSS officers and other partners in the ongoing search for a Kenyan officer who went missing on March 25 in the Pont-Sondé area of Artibonite Department.

The president praised the MSS contingents for their service to the people of Haiti and lauded the strong and productive relationship between the Haitian National Police and the Kenyan-led MSS officers. He encouraged MSS troops to stay committed to their mission of making Haiti safer.

Addressing the MSS personnel, he thanked them for their dedication to protecting the Haitian population from gang violence.

In response, Otunge reassured the president that MSS officers remain motivated and committed to their tasks. He highlighted the accomplishments of MSS so far and expressed appreciation for Haiti’s collaborative efforts in the search for the missing Kenyan officer.

Otunge also honored the bravery of the late officer and acknowledged the local community in Pont-Sondé for their cooperation with MSS and the Haitian National Police in fighting gang violence and assisting in the search for the missing officer.

The president was accompanied by Prime Minister Didier Fils-Aimé, former Transitional President’s Council President Leslie Voltaire, and Haiti National Police Director General Rameau Normil.

A statement confirmed that the TPC President and the prime minister reiterated their strong commitment to locating the missing Kenyan officer, Administration Police Constable Benedict Kabiru.

Following the attack, videos surfaced online allegedly showing the officer’s body on the ground, but the body has yet to be recovered. Kenyan authorities have dispatched specialized teams to retrieve the body, which remains in the possession of the gangs.
