In a notice released on March 27, 2025, the Ministry outlined the details of the auction process, with viewing days for the items scheduled to begin on April 7, 2025. The viewing will be open on working days (Monday to Friday) and will run from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, excluding public holidays.

Bidding Process and Requirements: Interested bidders are required to pay a refundable deposit of Ksh50,000 for vehicles/equipment and Ksh30,000 for stores, in cash to the Ministry of Defence, before the last day of viewing. Additionally, each bidder can only bid for one lot and must present the original catalogue and receipts at the entrance to participate.

Vehicles purchased in the auction must be repainted with non-military color patterns (where applicable) before being used on the road. The Ministry has emphasized that vehicles with military number plates must not be driven on public roads; failure to comply will result in immediate impoundment.

Failure to complete payment within this period will result in the cancellation of the award and forfeiture of the deposit.

Items must be collected within 30 days of full payment; otherwise, storage fees of 1% of the bid price per day will apply, up to a maximum of three months. Items not collected within three months will be forfeited along with any payments made.

Additional Charges: Successful bidders will be responsible for any applicable duties, VAT, and other charges, as per government regulations. The Ministry has also stated that the sale will be subject to a reserve price, and bids below this price will be rejected without explanation.

Before collecting their items, successful bidders must obtain clearance from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

This public auction presents a unique opportunity for individuals and organizations to acquire military surplus, but interested parties should be prepared to adhere to all requirements outlined by the Ministry of Defence.
