48 Escape Unhurt as Bus Burns on Nairobi-Mombasa Highway

A Malindi-bound Tahmeed bus carrying 48 passengers caught fire and was completely destroyed shortly after all occupants were safely evacuated on Sunday morning.

According to authorities and the bus company, the incident occurred on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway, a few kilometers from Voi town. While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, police have confirmed that all passengers were successfully removed from the bus before it was engulfed in flames.

The bus management ensured the safe evacuation of all 48 passengers after the fire broke out around 4 am on Sunday, while the bus was en route from Kitale to Malindi, near the Voi area.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and the passengers were assisted in continuing their journey on alternative buses, as stated in a company statement.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated by both the management and the police.

This incident marks the second such occurrence in the area within a year. In January 2023, another bus belonging to the same company caught fire while carrying 42 passengers to Mombasa in the same vicinity. However, no injuries were reported in that incident.

Both incidents are currently under investigation by the authorities, who noted that such occurrences are not uncommon along this route and often impact long-distance buses.

Just last month, another bus experienced a similar fire incident in the Kanga area, prompting the evacuation of all passengers.
