A 42-year-old artisanal miner lost his life after a gold mining tunnel collapsed in Nyangoma area, Bondo, Migori County, police have confirmed.
The miner, identified as Michael Mbago, was working underground with two colleagues on Wednesday, December 10, 2025, when the tunnel gave way and trapped him. The two other miners managed to escape, sustaining only minor injuries.

Mbago’s body was later retrieved and taken to a local mortuary, where it is being held pending a postmortem and further procedures. The incident has renewed concerns over safety in artisanal mining zones, which have previously recorded similar accidents.
In a separate case, police in Tot area, Elgeyo Marakwet County, are probing the death of an unidentified man who succumbed to head injuries following a fight. The man, who worked at a construction site, died on Wednesday, December 11, 2025. His body was taken to a mortuary as police await identification and a postmortem examination.
Elsewhere in Adungosi, Teso North, Busia County, a domestic dispute between two brothers turned fatal. The deceased, Emmanuel Okinyang, 37, was found near his home with head injuries. Police said the suspect later surrendered at a local station after first rushing his injured brother to hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The body was moved to a mortuary pending an autopsy.
Meanwhile, authorities in Molo, Nakuru County, are investigating the death of a juvenile boy whose decomposing body was recovered from Matumaini River on Wednesday. Police suspect the child may have drowned, though investigations are ongoing. The body was taken to a mortuary for identification and postmortem.
In Kajiado County’s Imbirikani area, police have launched investigations after unknown individuals stoned a vehicle, causing damage. The driver and co-driver were injured by flying debris from the shattered windscreen but were treated at a local clinic and later discharged.
