Young Kenyans Encouraged to Pursue Barista and Mixology Studies to Meet Growing Global Demand

Kenyan youth are being encouraged to explore barista and mixology studies to meet the increasing demand for professionals both locally and globally. The founder of the Worthstart Barista and Mixology Institute, Zoey Naik, issued this challenge during the graduation of 43 trainees. Naik urged more young individuals to enroll in these programs to fulfill the rising demand for skilled professionals in the hospitality industry.

During the graduation ceremony, Naik highlighted that the institute goes the extra mile to assist students in securing internships and jobs both locally and internationally. The one-month training provided by the institute equips individuals with all the necessary skills required for a career as a barista and mixologist.

Naik also appealed to the government for support, emphasizing the industry’s growth and potential. Despite the government’s efforts to create employment opportunities abroad, Jim Wesonga, the institute’s mixologist trainer, believes there is a significant market for the profession, with salaries comparable to those of members of parliament, especially internationally.

Wesonga stressed the importance of Kenyan youth receiving training tailored to meet the demands of the job market. The institute provides comprehensive training, secures job opportunities for graduates, and aims to produce top-notch mixologists.

Barista training is known for its quick completion and high market value. Students receive instruction in creating various cocktails and coffee beverages. Recent graduates expressed optimism about a better future, with one graduate, Erick Mbatia, encouraging young people to pursue barista studies promptly due to the industry’s rapid growth in the country.

A mixologist is skilled in mixing cocktails and other beverages, while a barista specializes in making and serving coffee and coffee-based drinks.
