In a disturbing turn of events, the lifeless body of a middle-aged man has been discovered in a thicket close to the Jomoko area, along Thika superhighway near Witeithie. The victim bore two bullet wounds, suggesting a violent end to his life.
According to reports from local residents, spearheaded by Francis Njuguna, the Nyumba Kumi chairman, the deceased was part of a group on a motorbike, purportedly fleeing after committing a theft involving snatching a handbag and a phone from a woman in the Witeithie region of Juja.
Eyewitnesses recount that law enforcement officers on patrol pursued the individuals and opened fire, resulting in the fatal shooting of the deceased while his associates managed to evade capture.
Njuguna highlighted the prevalent issue of theft along the bustling superhighway, noting that culprits often take refuge in the surrounding culverts after preying on unsuspecting members of the public. He commended the efforts of the police in addressing the matter and urged other security agencies to collaborate with the community to root out criminal elements from the vicinity.
Confirming the incident, Thika Sub-county police commander Lawrence Muchangi stated that they were alerted by concerned citizens about gunfire in the area. Upon arrival at the scene, authorities discovered the lifeless body of the man amidst the thickets.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the police suggest that the deceased was allegedly involved in the snatching of a handbag and a phone from a woman along the busy highway. His attempt to flee the scene ended tragically as he was met with gunfire.
The deceased has been transported to the General Kago mortuary in Thika as inquiries into the incident continue to unfold.
