Super Metro Driver, Conductor Arraigned Over Kitengela Death

A driver and conductor attached to a Super Metro bus have been charged in connection with the death of a 25-year-old man in Kitengela.

Reports indicate that the bus crew allegedly forced Joseph Mureithi out of the moving vehicle along the Kitengela–Namanga Highway on Tuesday, February 24, 2026. Shortly after he was thrown out, the same bus is said to have run over him before fleeing the scene, leaving him with fatal injuries by the roadside.

In a statement, the bus company confirmed that the two suspects were granted bond of Sh500,000 each, with an alternative surety of the same amount, as they await the hearing of the case.

“Super Metro notes the court’s ruling regarding the incident. We remain fully committed to the safety of our staff, passengers, and the wider community,” the company said in part.

The firm stated that it has initiated measures to reassess and reinforce its safety protocols and compliance standards.

Super Metro further disclosed that it conducted an internal review to establish whether any of its operational procedures contributed to the incident, with a view to enhancing safety safeguards.

“We will continue to cooperate with the relevant authorities and prioritise preventive actions to ensure such a tragedy does not happen again,” the statement added.

Mureithi, who worked as a petrol attendant at a station in Athi River, had recently secured the job to help offset his mother’s medical expenses.

He was pronounced dead on arrival at Shalom Hospital following the incident.
