According to Scholastica Jeptoo, her husband Abel Keter, who is the children’s father, physically attacked her after they disagreed on whether to spend the money on alcohol or food.
Jeptoo told authorities that she had pleaded with Keter to let her use the full amount to buy dinner for their children, but he insisted on using the money for alcohol. The two eventually agreed to split the amount equally.

Keter then suggested that Jeptoo accompany him to a nearby bar where she would buy him a drink worth Sh150 and use the remaining amount for food.
However, while at the bar, Keter reportedly changed his mind and demanded the full Sh300. Jeptoo said she asked the waitress to divide the money, explaining their children were at home with nothing to eat.

This reportedly enraged Keter, who then slapped and punched her, injuring her eyes. Bar patrons intervened to stop the attack, after which Keter apologised and promised not to repeat the assault.
Despite the apology, Jeptoo claims that once they got home, Keter attacked her again. Fearing further violence, she handed over the entire amount. Keter then attempted to drag her back to the bar.
While on the way, Jeptoo came across police officers on patrol and reported the incident. Keter was arrested and charged in court, where he denied the allegations. He was released on a cash bail of Sh30,000, with the case scheduled to be mentioned on June 10.
