Ruto’s UDA receives Ksh.316 million from the Political Parties Fund, while ODM receives Ksh.168 million, according to Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu.
The allocations for the Financial Year 2023/2024 were announced in a gazette notice published on Friday. United Democratic Alliance (UDA) emerged with the largest share, receiving slightly over Ksh.316 million due to the second revision of the Supplementary Estimates.
This marks an increase from the earlier allocation of Ksh.237 million intended for UDA in January 2024.
Meanwhile, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) saw its funding increase from Ksh.127 million in January to Ksh.168 million in the latest allocation.
Other parties also received revised amounts: Jubilee party’s allocation rose from Ksh.55 million to Ksh.74 million, and Wiper Democratic Movement saw an increase from Ksh.29 million to Ksh.39 million. Kenya African National Union (KANU) received Ksh.13 million, up from Ksh.9 million initially allocated.
The Registrar cited the Political Parties Act and the Political Parties (Funding) Regulations as the basis for these revisions, which were necessitated by the Supplementary Estimates No. 2 of FY 2023/24.
The allocations, though higher than those in January, represent a decrease compared to the previous Financial Year 2022/2023 figures.
In the November 2022 allocations, UDA received more than half a billion shillings, ODM received Ksh.38 million, Jubilee got Ksh.135 million, and Wiper received Ksh.72 million.
These distributions are governed by Section 25 of the Political Parties Act, which allocates 95% of the Fund based on the votes secured by each party in the preceding General Election, with 5% designated for administrative expenses.
Parties failing to secure at least 5% of the total votes or with over two-thirds of their office bearers being of the same gender are ineligible for funding under these regulations.
