Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of fueling corruption in Parliament by bribing lawmakers to push his political and legislative agenda.
Speaking on Citizen TV’s The Explainer on Tuesday night, Gachagua claimed the President lacks the moral authority to condemn graft in Parliament, alleging that MPs and Senators have routinely been paid to vote in his favor.

According to Gachagua, MPs allegedly received Ksh200,000 each to pass the contentious 2024 Finance Bill, while those who voted for his impeachment were paid Ksh500,000. He further alleged Senators were offered up to Ksh10 million.
He claimed Ruto keeps “files” on legislators who accept cash, using the information to blackmail them into loyalty, and accused state agencies such as KRA and DCI of being deployed to intimidate dissenting MPs.
“State House is a crime scene,” Gachagua charged, further alleging that sacks of cash were being distributed by the Deputy President to bribe citizens into chanting pro-government slogans, even as Ruto postures as a corruption fighter.
