Aladwa Declares 2027 Nairobi Governor Bid on ODM Ticket

Makadara Member of Parliament George Aladwa has officially announced his intention to contest the Nairobi governorship in the 2027 General Election on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, October 2, 2025, Aladwa said ODM will be the party to beat in Nairobi’s gubernatorial race and insisted that anyone eyeing the seat must do so through the party.

“Ule yoyote anataka kiti ya gavana, akuje kwa ODM. Na mimi pia, nakaa kwa hiyo kiti ya gavana kwa ODM. Kwa hivyo kama kuna mtu anataka kusimama, tukutane kwa debe,” he stated confidently.

The outspoken MP emphasized that leadership requires boldness and service beyond public approval. “Najua kuna wengine hawawezi kupenda mambo nimesema lakini huwezi kupendwa na kila mtu. Lazima kazi ianze,” he added.

Aladwa’s declaration positions him among the first ODM leaders to publicly announce interest in Nairobi’s top county seat, setting the stage for what could be a heated contest within the party.

Nairobi’s governorship has historically attracted fierce competition, given the city’s role as Kenya’s political and economic hub.

The lawmaker has been a close ally of ODM leader Raila Odinga and recently participated in party-led talks on the impeachment motion against Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

Following the meeting, he disclosed that ODM had resolved to put the motion on hold to give Sakaja room to address issues raised by the county assembly.

With his latest announcement, Aladwa has made it clear he intends to play a central role in ODM’s strategy for the 2027 polls, positioning himself as a key figure to watch in Nairobi politics.
