Speaking on Thursday during the National Youth Service (NYS) passing out parade in Gilgil, the Head of State encouraged young people to pursue big dreams, stressing that progress comes from bold vision and determination.

“Never let anyone convince you that your dreams are too big. Progress comes from daring greatly and setting higher standards,” he said.

Referencing his recent trip to Japan, President Ruto pointed to the country’s order, prosperity, and advanced infrastructure as proof of what vision and determination can achieve.

“I see their prosperity, their order, their infrastructure, and I ask: why not Kenya?” he posed, urging the nation to learn from countries that overcame adversity, including post-war Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore.

He criticized Kenya’s culture of settling for mediocrity, challenging citizens to pursue excellence instead.

“For too long, average has been accepted as the standard. I refuse to settle for less, and I challenge Kenyans to do the same,” he said.

Ruto reaffirmed his long-term vision, insisting that within the current generation, Kenya must attain first-world status. He emphasized that this ambition requires collective commitment, discipline, and unity across society.

Highlighting the crucial role of the NYS, the President said the institution has, for 61 years, been central to preparing young Kenyans with skills, education, and national cohesion.

Today, however, he noted that the challenge is greater, with nearly one million young people entering the job market annually.
