Sifuna, Babu, Orengo Storm Vihiga in Political Showdown

The Linda Mwananchi faction is gearing up for a packed weekend of political activities across Western and Nyanza, kicking off with a rally in Vihiga on Saturday.

The event will be led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, among other leaders.

The Vihiga gathering will set the stage for a highly anticipated rally in Kisumu on Sunday, which has drawn criticism from a section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members aligned to the Linda Ground faction.

Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi on Friday warned the group against actions he termed disrespectful to ODM leadership, particularly party figure Oburu Oginga.

Speaking at a roadside rally in Kisumu, Atandi accused the Linda Mwananchi team of steering the region back into opposition politics, while highlighting government-backed development projects.

He also called on residents to attend the Sunday rally at Owuor Grounds in Kisumu—the same venue where President William Ruto launched construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) extension in March.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja had earlier assured the public of adequate security during the Kisumu rally, noting ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb the rise of organized disruptions at political gatherings.

The planned rally follows remarks by Orengo, who recently declared himself the “people’s party leader” of ODM, accusing the current leadership of undermining the legacy of the late Raila Odinga.

Addressing supporters in Kisumu on Friday, Orengo maintained that the Linda Mwananchi faction is the last stronghold preserving the party, which he claimed is facing increasing pressure from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
