The party announced her entry through a statement on X, expressing pride in welcoming her to what they described as “the Party of the People,” a political movement rooted in grassroots support and driven by individuals determined to create a better future.

Kariuki served as Water CS during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

“Welcome aboard former CS Sicily Kariuki. Your decision to join DCP reflects a shared vision of building a prosperous future. This movement belongs to the people, listens to the ground, and unites like-minded citizens,” the party stated.

The DCP added that new members symbolize the growing momentum behind their mission to transform the country.

Kariuki, like several other cabinet secretaries from the Jubilee government, stepped down in early 2022 to contest in the August elections. She resigned from her cabinet role on February 9, 2022, expressing interest in vying for a political seat on the Jubilee ticket, which was led by then-President Uhuru Kenyatta.

However, her ambitions were thwarted when Jubilee Party settled on former Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia, ending a prolonged internal political contest.

Her move to DCP follows in the footsteps of Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba, who recently declared her allegiance to the party.

Wamuchomba held discussions with Gachagua at the DCP offices in Nairobi on June 12, 2025, before accompanying him on a tour of Githunguri and other areas of Kiambu County, signaling her intention to collaborate with him ahead of the 2027 elections.

Gachagua has announced that the official launch of DCP will take place on July 7, 2025. The venue has been relocated from Nairobi to the Maa region after the initial booking was allegedly revoked by government authorities.

Speaking to Maa community grassroots leaders at his Wamunyoro home on Monday, Gachagua said,

“This party belongs to you. If you agree, we will now hold the official launch here among the Maa community. Are you ready for it?”
