Shocking Twist as Lorry Driver Found Murdered in Mbooni

Police in Matuu, Yatta and Tawa have launched investigations into a suspected carjacking and murder after the body of a 26-year-old lorry driver was discovered in Kasyelia village, Tawa area of Mbooni Sub-county.

The driver had been transporting lorry registration number KDR 422F, carrying 259 bags of cement from Simba Cement Factory in Athi River. Police tracking showed the vehicle followed the Athi River–MKS–Masii–Mwala–Matuu route before being diverted at Masii towards Tawa.

Officers said the driver’s phone was switched off soon after the diversion, prompting the lorry owner to file a report at Matuu Police Station at about 11:00pm. The vehicle was later found abandoned at Kithuia shopping centre around 1:30am, with the keys left inside, while the driver and other occupants were nowhere to be seen.

A search by Tawa police led to the discovery of the driver’s body in nearby bushes. The body showed signs of assault, suggesting he had been attacked.

The remains were taken to Tawa Mortuary, while the lorry was impounded at Tawa Police Station for further examination. Preliminary investigations suggest the driver may have been killed at a different location before the body was dumped. Police noted that the cement cargo was intact.

Matuu OCS Stanley Wanjala confirmed the incident, saying detectives are working to establish the circumstances of the killing and track down those responsible.
