Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s supporters assert he is the most qualified candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 State House race. Senate Deputy Minority Leader Enoch Wambua, a key ally of Kalonzo, declared that the former vice president would be the Azimio candidate for the upcoming elections, garnering full support from Raila Odinga, President Uhuru Kenyatta, and other Azimio-OKA principals.
This move may potentially create tension within Azimio, especially if Raila Odinga expresses interest in facing Ruto again. In a critique of Ruto on Monday, Senator Wambua argued that Kalonzo not only has the capability to defeat Ruto but can also rectify the perceived shortcomings of Ruto’s administration.
Wambua described Kalonzo as an honest, trustworthy, and incorruptible leader who, in an open presidential contest, Ruto cannot surpass. He urged Kalonzo to prepare to lead Kenya towards national cohesion, political stability, and economic recovery.
Wambua emphasized that Kalonzo has demonstrated statesmanship by sacrificing his presidential aspirations three times since 2013. He called on Azimio to unite and take decisive steps towards forming the next government in the new year, aiming to rescue Kenyans from what he described as the ‘clueless, inept, and incompetent’ Kenya Kwanza administration.
He dismissed the notion that all Azimio-OKA principals have an equal chance against Ruto, urging a realistic assessment of the situation. Wambua criticized Ruto’s administration, labeling it as a failed regime that has overlooked pressing issues affecting Kenyans, such as the high cost of living and the Executive’s control over Parliament.
Wambua warned of possible street protests over the escalating cost of living, asserting that Kenyans will be unstoppable in demanding relief. He accused Ruto’s regime of dismissing the people’s grievances and emphasized that promises from the government no longer hold weight. Additionally, Wambua claimed that Parliament has become a puppet controlled by the Executive, citing the Finance Act 2023 as an example of oppressive taxation pushed through despite widespread opposition.
