How Athlete Benjamin Kiplagat Was Ki-lled

On Monday, authorities in Uasin Gishu County apprehended two primary suspects in connection with the homicide of Kenyan-born Ugandan athlete Benjamin Kiplagat. The athlete was discovered deceased in his vehicle on Sunday morning in Kimumu estate, located on the outskirts of Eldoret town.

According to CCTV footage seen by The Lower Eastern Times, the two suspects were observed trailing Kiplagat’s car and leaving the estate at approximately 1:10 am on December 31, 2023. The footage reveals a motorbike rider swiftly departing the estate, followed by a pick-up truck approaching the exit in what appears to be a hurried manner at 1:11 am. Subsequently, a white saloon car is seen moving at an unusually slow pace.

At 1:14 am, the pick-up abruptly returns to the estate, and two individuals suspiciously walk toward the car. Another individual follows suit, and they hastily retreat towards the exit. The Eldoret police utilized this CCTV footage to apprehend the two suspects linked to the athlete’s murder.

Stephen Okal, the Moiben sub-county Police Commander, disclosed that one suspect was captured within Uasin Gishu, while the other was apprehended in the neighboring Trans Nzoia County. Both suspects are currently detained at Ainaptich Police Station, and authorities are conducting interrogations, suspecting potential involvement of additional individuals in the heinous crime.

The suspects are scheduled to be presented in court on Tuesday as the police intensify efforts to unravel the puzzle surrounding the athlete’s murder.
