In an interview on K24 aired Thursday, Orwoba admitted that, with the benefit of hindsight, she would have handled the situation differently.

When asked if she regretted supporting the move to oust Gachagua, Orwoba responded candidly, “I do, I regret it.”

Her comments signal a reversal from her earlier position when she had backed the impeachment. Orwoba explained that she had misunderstood one of the key allegations among the 11 charges brought against Gachagua.

She pointed out that although the former Deputy President faced numerous accusations, most lacked adequate proof and were not convincingly substantiated in the Senate.

Recalling her participation in the proceedings, she said she had criticized the impeachment motion for its weak evidence base and noted that the only charge she believed held merit involved a misunderstood public remark by Gachagua linked to local community mobilization.

“I was among those who misread the situation,” she said, adding that the single substantiated charge was the basis of her vote to impeach.

Following the impeachment process, Orwoba herself was removed from the Senate after Speaker Amason Jeffah Kingi declared her seat vacant.

However, she secured a court order halting her expulsion from the UDA party and her removal as senator.

A Gazette Notice published on May 21, 2025, by Speaker Kingi formally announced the vacancy in line with constitutional provisions, citing Article 101(2) and Article 98(1)(b), which addresses representation of special interest groups.

“The public is hereby informed that, in accordance with Article 101(2) of the Constitution of Kenya, the Senate seat held by Gloria Orwoba, elected under Article 98(1)(b), became vacant on May 21, 2025,” the notice stated.
