The cockpit voice recorder (CVR) was located on Sunday, two days after the flight data recorder (FDR) was retrieved, according to a statement by PK Mishra, a senior aide to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The ill-fated London-bound aircraft went down in a residential neighborhood on Thursday, claiming the lives of nearly everyone on board, including 242 passengers and crew, and at least 38 residents on the ground. Only one passenger survived the crash.
India’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has launched a comprehensive inquiry into the tragedy, while the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is also involved in a parallel investigation under international aviation protocols, given that the Boeing aircraft was manufactured in the U.S.
Officials confirmed both the CVR and FDR have been successfully recovered and secured, but experts caution it is still too early to determine the cause of the crash, which occurred shortly after takeoff.
