William Ruto has received an invitation to attend the upcoming G7 Leaders’ Summit in Évian, France, in what is being seen as a major recognition of Kenya’s expanding role in global economic diplomacy.
The invitation was confirmed during high-level discussions in Paris between Kenya’s Ambassador to France Betty Cherwon and Economic Planning Principal Secretary Boniface Makokha, as Kenya prepares for the G7 Development Ministers’ Meeting held on April 29–30.

According to the embassy, the talks focused on reviewing Kenya’s preparedness and strengthening its positions ahead of the ministerial engagements, ensuring the country’s priorities are clearly represented.
Makokha, who is leading Kenya’s delegation, said the invitation to the summit reflects Kenya’s growing influence in global economic discussions and its role in shaping international development policy. He noted that Kenya intends to push for reforms that support developing economies, especially in areas such as financing, climate resilience, and inclusive growth.
Kenya will join other invited nations, including Korea, Brazil, and India, at the June summit, which gathers the G7 countries to deliberate on global challenges such as economic recovery, climate action, and sustainable development.
Ambassador Cherwon added that Kenya is also seeking to deepen cooperation with international partners and institutions, including ongoing engagement with the OECD, as part of its broader global economic agenda.
Officials say Kenya’s participation highlights its rising profile on the international stage and its ambition to represent African and Global South interests in major policy forums.
The summit is scheduled for June 15–16, with Kenyan authorities expressing optimism that the engagement will yield practical benefits for the country and the wider region.
