A postmortem examination has been conducted on the body of Rwandan coach Gervais Hakizamana, who tragically passed away alongside World Marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum. The examination took place at a hospital morgue, where a team of pathologists, led by Dr. Benson Macharia, and officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were present.
Dr. Macharia confirmed that the postmortem had been completed, but he stated that the family had instructed him not to disclose any details to the media. “In such cases, priority is given to the family, and we adhere to their wishes. They have asked me not to provide any information to the media,” Dr. Macharia explained.
Family members who were also present at the morgue declined to make any comments on the matter.
Following the completion of the postmortem examination, the body of Gervais Hakizamana will be transported to Nairobi before being flown to Kigali, Rwanda, for burial arrangements to be made by his family.
The silence surrounding the details of his passing has left many questions unanswered, as friends, colleagues, and the wider athletic community mourn the loss of both Gervais Hakizamana and Kelvin Kiptum.
