President William Ruto has appointed former Gender Cabinet Secretary Aisha Jumwa as the non-executive chairperson of the Kenya Roads Board.

According to a Gazette notice dated January 17, the appointment will take effect immediately, and she will serve a three-year term.
The notice, signed by President Ruto, cites his authority under section 7 (1) (a) of the Kenya Roads Board Act and section 51 (1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act. It states that Aisha Jumwa Katana is appointed to the role for a three-year period beginning January 17, 2025.
In the same notice, the President also announced the revocation of Ahmed Kolosh Mohamed’s appointment.
Jumwa, who previously served as Malindi’s MP, was part of Ruto’s original Cabinet but was not included in the reshuffled Cabinet in July 2024 following the anti-government protests. However, Ruto assured her during a speech in Watamu on July 26, 2024, that she would not be left out of government and would be given another significant role, alongside Cabinet Secretaries Hassan Joho and Salim Mvurya.
Jumwa, who expressed her appreciation for the President’s commitment, has a long political career. Before her political journey, she worked in a construction company in Kilifi. She began her political career as a KANU youth leader and later became the Takaunga ward councillor from 1997 to 2007. She was also the chairperson of Kilifi Town Council.
In 2013, Jumwa became Kilifi’s first Woman Representative following the 2010 Constitution, elected under the ODM party ticket. She was a member of the Departmental Committee on Environment and Natural Resources from 2013 to 2017 and served as Malindi’s MP from 2017 onward. She also held a position as a commissioner in the Parliamentary Service Commission. In 2022, she ran for Kilifi governor but was defeated by Gideon Mung’aro.
