Raila to Sifuna: Be Less Harsh in Criticizing the Government

ODM leader Raila Odinga has urged the party’s Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, to soften his criticism of President William Ruto’s administration.

Raila assured ODM members who have joined the government that the party would fully support them in carrying out their duties.

“Sifuna, sometimes you don’t need to be too harsh,” Raila said while speaking at the funeral of the late Kasipul MP Charles Were in Oyugis, Homa Bay County.

Raila clarified that ODM has a written agreement with Kenya Kwanza, which includes a 10-point agenda they want fully implemented.

He called on ODM members to remain united and focused on strengthening the party.

“There will always be differences in opinion, but a party must have a clear and firm stance on certain issues,” he added.

Raila also stated that it would benefit the party if members supported the four ODM Cabinet Secretaries in their roles.

“The party’s spokesman is the Secretary General. When Sifuna speaks, he represents the party, but sometimes he should avoid being too harsh,” he said.

Raila’s comments followed a request from Treasury CS John Mbadi, who asked for support in his role in government, along with fellow ODM members Hassan Joho (Mining), Opiyo Wandayi (Energy), and Wycliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives).

“I am the longest-serving ODM chairman, and I’m working hard to improve the economy because it was in poor shape,” Mbadi said.

He added, “I also want to show Kenyans that if Raila had become president, these are the people he would have worked with in government, and this is what they would have accomplished.”

Mbadi continued, addressing Sifuna, “My brother, I am a member of your party, and if I fail, you will have a difficult time convincing anyone in 2027 that ODM can run a government.”

Sifuna has been a vocal critic of the inclusive government.
