Raila Odinga, the opposition leader who departed the country on Wednesday, visited Rhodes House at Oxford University, UK.

He was accompanied by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Jared Okello.

In a post on X, he expressed gratitude for the welcome extended by the Kenya Mission UK, led by acting High Commissioner Edwin Afande, and also mentioned the presence of Senator Edwin Sifuna and Hon Jared Okello.

During his visit, Raila met with Kenyan postgraduate students studying at Oxford.

According to a statement from the Azimio la Umoja coalition, Raila’s trip to Europe was at the invitation of the Oxford Africa Society. He is scheduled to deliver a lecture titled “Forging Africa’s Future: A Journey of Resilience and Renewal” at their annual event.

The lecture, according to coalition spokesperson Dennis Onyango, will delve into Africa’s journey of resilience and renewal, drawing from Raila’s vast experience in public service and advocacy. Themes such as political stability, economic growth, equity, democracy, and social cohesion will be highlighted, along with stories of resilience and examples of renewal from across the continent.
Additionally, Raila has announced his candidacy for the African Union Commission (AUC) seat in the February 2025 election, aiming to succeed Chad’s Moussa Faki, whose term is concluding.
